Everyone engages with art differently either with colour or emotions. Art can help people engage in discussion or they can engage on their own, in their own way.
Kari Visscher is an artist, radiologist, and mother.
“Art provides the space to slow down and reflect on the life within and around me. The mindfulness gained in each step of the creative process is an opportunity to re-center, take a breath, process emotions and express in a way that can create beauty even from a place of unpleasantness. I gravitate toward moments of childhood innocence, love of family, and human connection.
I delight in painting forms with light that can range from the simplest of objects in a still life to the complexities of facial expressions in a portrait. An escape from every day can be found in dreaming of future work to composing images in my mind when listening to music. I value the challenge of learning a new technique and the community created by connecting with other artists. Even the excitement and disappointment that comes with art competitions are all part of this art journey that I esteem. Thank you for taking the time to read this and explore the work that holds pieces of who I am for others to see.”
